The Kylo metadata server uses JBoss ModeShape (as a JCR compliant store) and MySQL (or Postgres). The Kylo architecture is highly extensible as users can define their own business and operational metadata fields when creating feeds and categories. Kylo captures lineage, job and feed performance statistics and data profiles and publishes this information through REST APIs.
Kylo supports both batch and streaming-style pipelines and a pluggable architecture for adding support for more raw formats. It automatically records performance statistics for streaming-style pipelines in activities over units of time and tracks batch-style pipelines through jobs and steps.
Kylo has a simple user interface to enable self-service data ingest and transformations. Users can configure new data feeds including schema, security and data validation. They can also wrangle data using Visual SQL and interactive transforms through a user interface. Kylo supports the standard Hadoop target formats of ORC and Parquet as well as AVRO, text, and RCFile.
